Story
Healing House is a program that helps people with addictions get clean and rebuild their lives. They help get jobs, provide food and housing, and provide general help.
Our employers are healing as a whole. The services they produce are basic needs that include shelter, daily meals and clothes.
They bring value to the community because they provide ways for people who are leaving prison or jail to be able to get jobs, even though it is very difficult.
They are also a community who is not afraid to share with one another. They are a family.
The Problem
Teen addiction is leading to loss of life and pain.
It starts with kids being not only peer pressured but also wanting to fit in. Young kids who are doing drugs will just transition into addiction. It is often made worse if there is family neglect and no communication.
The Solution
Our solution is to create a curriculum for 7-12 graders using a Bobbi Jo Reed documentary.
It will be in six sections with the first and last being the before film and after film analysis.
The curriculum will help kids understand that they do not have to end up like this. There are ways to do things the right way.
Target Market
7-12 Graders
Societal Impact
The will be less people addicted to substances. The community will improve and connectivity in the community will be restored.
Next Steps
Creating a video would help us to present this curriculum to schools and get widespread implementation. We will also get a curriculum writer and funds for the curriculum.
Reflection
I have been much more active and driven in my general life. Taking this responsibility has given me purpose and drive. I have definitely grown accustomed to the people here because they really care about each other.
