Story
The Urban Ranger Corps provides boys and young men ages 12 to 18 with a unique opportunity to develop the appropriate life skills necessary for them to become successful and contributing members of society. We offer each participant a global view in the content areas of Career & Academic Enrichment, Financial & Entrepreneurial Education and Neighborhood & Community Involvement.
The Problem
Our problem we are solving is transportation. The reason we choose this problem is because we cant enroll as many people as we want if we dont have the ability to get them from one spot to another .
The Solution
To finance these vans, we are able to obtain money from of few separate sources. Notable among these is:
- Partnering with other youth programs, ( i.e. Sporting KC, Boy & Girls Club, YMCA )
- Fund raising during the year
- Online advertisements
Target Market
This problem impacts our ability enroll new Rangers each year. Not having access to transportation limits our ability to serve more boys throughout the city.
Societal Impact
If we can't increase our numbers of students served, it decrease our ability to impact the problems that affect young men. Also, we are limited in the amount of community members we can help.
Next Steps
Our spending will, of course, be transportation focused. As we have to split into many different teams to effectively get to work sites, we rely on a large amount of vans. Immediate spending will be focused on repairing our non-operational van, while future spending must be focused on renting a bus route over the summer for rangers that aren't able to arrive themselves.
Reflection
We learned new skills during the creation of this project. The main one being how to work as a team and then how to speak in public situations.
Use of Backer Contributions
We are not currently accepting contributions from our voters. This pitch is part of the ProX competition for $5,000. Funding will be used to purchase 15 passengers vans.
