The Story.

Innovator(s)

Our team has been working on looking at a possible way to engage teens in learning while having fun.

Problem

How can we get kids and teens interested in WeCodeKC?

Solution

Our solution is the "By teens, for teens" initiative with a Minecraft server where teens build, develop, and release their own games. Teens come to classes and create their own game content while learning both technical and social skills.

Target Market

Our main target audience is tweens and teens.

Societal Impact

Tweens and teens learn both technical and social skills including communication, collaboration, teamwork, as well as game development, data analysis, and various coding languages.

Next Steps

Our timeline is built using the Lean Startup method where we start with the first teen volunteer group and pilot 2 groups while learning and refining the product. Our goal is to start the first WeCode Social class 6 months after the start of the testing.

Reflection

Reflecting on WeCode Social, our team sees it as a great project, with learning opportunities sprinkled in.

Use of Backer Contributions

We believe that with time, WeCode Social can improve and become the hub for urban core teens to come, learn and socialize.
